UNVEILING OF THE TABLET (February 6, 2019

Each year, it has become a tradition that those on the ROTARY DREAM TEAMS have brought with them, their country flag and their state or province flag, to display at the construction site.  Again, this is a small way to add not only to the pageantry of the project (with flags wafting ion the breeze, adding their colors to the already very colorful saris, worn by the ladies who are working with us from the villages nearby.  This year we had the Indian Flag, the American Flag, the flag from the State of California , the State of New York and the State of Maine.  (Next year, there will be more!)

These flags were displayed on poles of bamboo and small saplings, placed in the ground near the location of the tablet that commemorates our efforts, by naming the dam, naming the group(s) which financially supported the project, and naming the Rotary Club(s) and Districts which helped with financing,  However, each year, there is an anticipation to make sure that our names are also inscribed on the marble tablet, and best of all that the names are spelled correctly.  This year was no exception.  We had the unveiling of the tablet, again, with prayers of thanksgiving and blessing and some of the Hindu traditions - where I was asked to make the mark of the swastik ( an ancient Hindu symbol of auspicious event) on the tablet, using cum cum powder and then to smash a coconut on the stone in front of the tablet and to sprinkle its juice on the tablet.  Not really so different from when a Catholic priest sprinkles holy water!
